　　Abstract： With the growth of population in China， the limitation of indoor public resources （such as libraries， shopping malls and classrooms） has become increasingly prominent. Therefore， real-time people counting in public places with limited resources is helpful to allocate resources more reasonably， and save the time for waiting in queue up and looking for space. In response to these requirements， a wireless indoor people counting system based on ZigBee technology was designed. Multigroup infrared sensors are adopted in the system to compose perception modules of people counting information， the real-time sensor data is collected by ZigBee wireless network， the change of indoor people number is analyzed based on the data， and ultimately real-time indoor people number is worked out. The experimental results show that the system with low cost and low power consumption is capable of counting indoor people statistic information in real time.
